Disney’s cheapest ticket in 2027 still costs the same US$119 it did before October 6. Even so, the news this week is about record-high prices, and that is no exaggeration: a one-day Magic Kingdom ticket will reach US$229 on Christmas Day. Both things are true at the same time, and understanding the difference is what will determine whether Disney’s 2027 ticket price increase weighs heavily on your budget or goes almost unnoticed.

One detail about where this news came from: Disney does not usually make a big announcement every time it raises prices. The new amounts simply appear on the ticket calendar on the official Walt Disney World website, and that is where the new ceiling was first noticed. That is why my recommendation applies to every figure in this article: before you buy, check your specific date on the official website. Disney prices vary by date and park and sometimes change from one week to the next.

What changed on October 6—and what stayed the same

On that day, Disney released dates for November and December 2027. Tickets are now on sale through December 31, 2027, and the newly released calendar introduced a higher ceiling concentrated on the most in-demand dates of the year.

Here is a comparison of the December 2026 peak and the December 2027 peak for a one-day, one-park ticket before tax:

ParkDec. 2026 peakDec. 2027 peakDifferencePercentage (my calculation)
Magic KingdomUS$209US$229+ US$20about 10%
EPCOTUS$209US$229+ US$20about 10%
Hollywood StudiosUS$204US$214+ US$10about 5%
Animal KingdomUS$184US$189+ US$5about 3%

The US$229 price appears only on December 25 and 31 at Magic Kingdom and on December 31 at EPCOT. It is not the price of an ordinary day in 2027.

The other increases affected items first-time visitors do not always look at:

Park Hopper: a one-day ticket with park-to-park access reaches US$301 on the most expensive day.

Annual passes: the Incredi-Pass increased from US$1,629 to US$1,749 (about 7%); the Sorcerer Pass from US$1,099 to US$1,139; the Pirate Pass from US$869 to US$909; and the Pixie Dust Pass from US$489 to US$499 (about 2%).

Lightning Lane Premier Pass: the maximum price rose from US$449 to US$499, an increase of just over 11%.

Quick-service food: most items went up by 50 cents to US$1. A fountain drink, for example, increased from US$4.79 to US$4.99.

Here is what did not go up: the cheapest ticket (US$119 at Animal Kingdom in August 2027), multi-day tickets, Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and, as far as we know, parking. Tickets for January through October 2027, which had already been released, also remained unchanged.

My take: calling this a “general price increase” oversimplifies what happened. On peak December dates, the increase ranges from 3% to 10%, depending on the park. It hits travelers visiting during the holidays and those buying add-ons especially hard. For those visitors, the headline of this article applies in full. For anyone traveling outside the year-end holidays and buying a multi-day package, the direct impact is much smaller.

2006 vs. 2027: the comparison that shows how wide the gap has become

Today’s prices only come into perspective when placed next to a starting point. In 2006, Disney raised prices twice. In January, a one-day ticket went from US$59.75 to US$63. In August, it increased to US$67, where it remained until the next price increase took it to US$71 in 2007. Date-based pricing did not exist: every park cost the same on every day of the year.

Here is how the end of 2006 compares with the end of 2027:

Dec. 2006Dec. 2027 peakIncrease
Magic KingdomUS$67US$229+242%
EPCOTUS$67US$229+242%
Hollywood StudiosUS$67US$214+219%
Animal KingdomUS$67US$189+182%
Cheapest day in 2027 (Animal Kingdom, Aug. 2027)US$67US$119+78%

For a family of four adults spending just one day in a park, the total was US$268 in 2006; it is US$476 with the cheapest 2027 ticket and US$916 at the Christmas peak.

A fair counterpoint: a 2006 dollar is not worth the same as a 2027 dollar. Inflation estimates place that year’s US$67 at about US$105 in 2024 dollars. Even after that adjustment, the cheapest 2027 ticket is higher, and the peak price is more than twice the inflation-adjusted amount.

It is also fair to remember what has changed inside the gates. Since 2006, Disney has added Pandora, Toy Story Land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, TRON Lightcycle / Run, and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. On the other hand, FastPass used to be free, while Lightning Lane now costs extra. Comparing ticket prices alone shows only half the picture. The other half is what you pay to avoid waiting in line.

Who will really feel the impact

This is where the question that changes the decision comes in: so what?

Travelers visiting in July or at the end of the year are the most exposed because those are the periods with the highest prices. For Brazilian travelers, who often schedule trips during school vacations, that matters more than the average percentage increase. If you are still putting together your overall budget, start with our guide on how to plan your trip to Orlando.

Anyone affected by exchange rates feels the impact twice. Here is a simple example: with four US$229 tickets, every R$1 increase in the dollar exchange rate adds R$916 to the total. With four US$119 tickets, it adds R$476. The change in the exchange rate between the day you start planning and the day you pay may have a greater impact than Disney’s price increase itself. That is why it is worth deciding early how you will pay abroad; in my article PayPal, Wise, or Nomad: which is the best option for your Orlando trip?, I compare the alternatives.

Anyone who wants Park Hopper pays a US$72 difference on the most expensive day alone (US$301 versus US$229). On most multi-day trips, the hopper option costs less per day, but the point remains: it is an add-on that becomes more expensive during the holidays.

Florida residents who use annual passes will pay US$10 to US$120 more per person, depending on the pass.

Anyone buying Lightning Lane Premier Pass will see the maximum price rise to US$499. It is a service almost no one needs on a first trip, yet it appears more and more often in conversations about “how to skip the lines.”

The counterpoint everyone is overlooking: the Magic Ticket

While the maximum price is rising, there is an offer created specifically for Latin American travelers: the 4-Day, 4-Park Magic Ticket for guests arriving between January 3 and May 22, 2027. On the official website, it starts at US$540, or about US$135 per day, for four different parks. Disney+ subscribers also receive the Water Park and Sports Option. I explained the rules, what changed, and what was left out in my article Disney 4-Park Magic Ticket 2027: What No One Told You About the New Offer.

Here is my opinion. Compare US$135 per day with the US$209 to US$229 prices at the end of the year, and even with the US$119 floor, which is available only in August and September. For a first four-day trip, the January-to-May window is, in my view, the smartest way to respond to this price increase: you avoid the ceiling and still visit all four parks. But check the terms of the offer on the official website because it has a limited booking window and specific usage rules, and it is available only to Latin American residents age 18 or older.

What I would do

With all of that on the table, here are my recommendations, which are opinions rather than rules:

I would avoid December 25 and 31. They are only two days, and the peak price appears only on those dates. If spending Christmas at Disney is nonnegotiable, I would choose other days during Christmas week instead. The article Best and Worst Dates to Visit Disney and Universal Parks in Orlando in 2026 helps show which periods combine higher prices with larger crowds, and the same reasoning applies to 2027.

I would compare multi-day tickets before buying individual one-day tickets. Multi-day packages did not increase in this round, and the daily cost usually drops as the number of days increases. Anyone building a four-day itinerary by purchasing four separate one-day tickets is paying more than necessary.

I would run the numbers for three scenarios rather than one. Calculate your ticket cost at the floor (US$119), on an average day, and at the peak (US$229). The difference among the three shows how much your choice of dates is worth in Brazilian reais, and it is a calculation many people make only after buying their flights.

I would look at Animal Kingdom for lower-priced days. That is where the cheapest ticket of the year appears, in August 2027. Just remember that August and September fall within hurricane season, something every family needs to weigh. I explained what to expect and how to prepare in Hurricane Season in Florida 2026: What to Expect.

I would save money in areas Disney’s price increase does not control. If park tickets will take up more of the budget, the rest of the trip needs some breathing room. A hotel with a kitchen, such as those in the guide 10 Orlando Hotels with Full Kitchens, can remove some restaurant meals from the credit card. Breakfast and backpack snacks also cost less when you know where to shop, as explained in the guide to the best supermarkets in Orlando. Disney allows guests to bring small snacks into the parks, which can offset the increases in quick-service food prices. Check the official website for the current rules on permitted items.

I would not rush to buy because I was afraid of the next price increase. Tickets are date-based. Buy once your travel dates are set, and check the official website for the current change policy. If the exchange rate is your biggest risk, the reasoning changes: in that case, locking in part of the travel budget earlier may make sense, but that is a financial decision for each family, and it is not my place to make a recommendation here.

The other side: what Disney is delivering in 2027

It would be unfair to discuss only prices. Several major projects are scheduled to open in 2027. Here is what Disney itself has confirmed. New attractions announced by Disney for Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom: Tropical Americas

This is the addition that will change the park the most. Tropical Americas is replacing DinoLand U.S.A. across approximately 11 acres (about 44,000 square meters), and Disney has confirmed a 2027 opening without announcing an official date. At the heart of the area is Pueblo Esperanza, a fictional village inspired by regions across Latin America. For Brazilian travelers, there is something especially meaningful about seeing our region represented by an entire land in a Disney park.

Three attractions make up the area:

Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent: this attraction will occupy the former Dinosaur space, with an original story set in the Maya world and Audio-Animatronics that, according to Disney, used Harrison Ford as the model for Indiana Jones.

Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto: the first Encanto attraction at a Disney park, set inside the Casita on the day after Antonio receives his gift. Disney has said it will have no height requirement, which is good news for families traveling with young children.

El Carrusel de los Animalitos: a carousel with 22 carved animals inspired by Disney and Pixar stories.

The land will also include a play area inspired by Maya culture and a quick-service restaurant expected to be one of the largest at the resort.

Magic Kingdom: a renewed Carousel of Progress

The attraction closed on July 6, 2026, and will reopen in late spring 2027. According to Disney, the classic attraction will add a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic to the opening scene, and every scene will move into more recent decades, showing the family at different moments in the evolution of technology. John and Sarah will be voiced by Bryan Cranston and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Hollywood Studios: the first phase of Monstropolis

Hollywood Studios will receive part of the new Monsters, Inc. land in 2027. Disney has said only that “parts” of it will open during the year. All indications are that the first phase will include a theater with a show hosted by Mike and Sulley. The major attraction, a suspended roller coaster traveling through the door vault—the first suspended coaster and the first vertical lift at a Disney park—is still in development and may not open with the first phase.

Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge

The new nature-inspired hotel will open in summer 2027 on the shore of Bay Lake, between Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge. It is a Disney Vacation Club property featuring tributes to Bambi, Pocahontas, and Brother Bear, and all indications are that it will include a recreation area called Wetlands, with a zero-entry pool and a lazy river.

What still does not have an opening date

Disney has also confirmed Villains Land and the Cars-themed area at Magic Kingdom—Piston Peak National Park, with Cars Ridge Run Rally and Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along—which the company describes as the largest expansion in the park’s history, along with a reimagining of Spaceship Earth at EPCOT. Disney has not announced an opening date for any of these projects. I would treat them as “coming in the future,” not “coming in 2027.”

The cost almost no one factors in: construction

Here is the part the optimistic news coverage tends to leave out. This year of new attractions also comes with a period of closed spaces. DinoLand U.S.A. and the Dinosaur attraction are already gone, and Carousel of Progress has been closed since July. Paying more for a park that is still under construction is a calculation every family needs to make.

My opinion: if a new attraction is the reason for your trip, I would not schedule it for opening week. Official dates are still missing, and openings may happen in phases. I would choose a period after Disney has announced an opening date and when the ticket price for that day falls within a reasonable range. If the classic park experience is the reason for your trip, 2027 is still a great year to visit; it is simply more expensive for travelers visiting during the holidays.

So, what would I do?

I would accept the increase as part of the equation and focus on what is within my control. First, I would look at the Magic Ticket if my trip could take place between January and May. Second, I would choose my dates carefully and avoid the two December peak dates. Third, I would compare the per-day price of multi-day packages. Finally, I would review the budget in Brazilian reais using the current exchange rate because it usually changes the total more than the ticket price itself.

Before making any purchase, it is also worth rereading 5 Mistakes That Can Ruin Your Orlando Trip. Making a rushed decision because a headline scared you usually costs more than the price increase itself.
